The Crackdown 2 video game doesn't go on sale until July 6, but the sweepstakes to win the “Crackdown Cruiser” has already begun. Based on the 2011 Dub Edition Ford Mustang V6, the customized car features Crackdown 2 graphics and 20-inch wheels fitted with Pirelli Zero Nero tires. Mercedes’ new AMG SLS – the gullwinged GT supercar due to appear at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show – is going electric as engineers develop an emissions-free battery powered SLS as an alternative to the 563bhp V8. The eco SLS will have an electric motor powering each wheel, producing a total of 526bhp. Needless to say, for now it remains an engineering prototype – but a spokeswoman told CAR that Mercedes was intent on putting it into production.

Today BMW reveals the i8 Concept, the production concept of the Vision EfficientDynamics supercar we saw back in 2009 and, for BMW, their way forward in a more eco-conscious world. But being aware of the climate doesn’t mean the joy has to be taken from the drive, and the BMW i8 aims to offer a car which can claim a green halo be also be a stimulating and appealing car for the petrolhead. The i8 is remarkably similar to the original Vision ED Concept, although it has dumped the 1.5 litre diesel the Concept has for a new 1.5 litre petrol engine with direct injection which develops 220bhp and 221lb/ft of torque.
